CHAPTER HISTORY
The Theta Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1966 by 52 women from the Inglewood and Los Angeles areas who sought to create a more intimate chapter. Led by Eugenia Scott and with support from Soror Leadie Clark, the group successfully submitted a formal charter request at the 42nd Boulé. The chapter was officially chartered on December 18, 1966, with Sister Laura Banks presiding over the ceremony.
Since its inception, Theta Mu Omega has significantly grown in membership and influence. The chapter has chartered several alumnae and undergraduate chapters, including Mu Beta Omega, Tau Beta Omega, and Lambda Sigma. Over the decades, the chapter has actively participated in various community service initiatives and hosted significant events, such as the 1974 Far Western Regional Conference and the 1984 Diamond Jubilee Boulé, where it received national recognition for its involvement in global concerns, particularly in supporting a school in Haiti.

Throughout its history, Theta Mu Omega has focused on education, health, and community engagement. The chapter introduced the "Reading Is Fundamental" program, which continues to thrive. Notable moments include former Supreme Basileus Soror Mattelia Gray conducting the 1975 membership intake ceremony, which included three sets of sisters.

These efforts included building an Alpha Kappa Alpha Habitat for Humanity House and initiating new leadership development programs. By the early 2000s, the chapter embraced technology and established a website and social media presence, further amplifying its impact.

In 2006, under Soror Senta K. Georgia’s leadership, Theta Mu Omega continued its commitment to education and community service, registering voters and distributing scholarships. The chapter also served as the lead host for Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Centennial Exhibition.
